The International Journal of Acoustics and Vibration (IJAV) is a refereed publication published quarterly by the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV). IJAV includes refereed articles, technical notes, letters-to-the-editor, book reviews, and announcements of general interest to readers. Articles may be theoretical or experimental in nature. But those which combine theoretical and experimental approaches to solve acoustics and vibration problems are particularly welcome. Technical notes (or brief contributions), letters-to-the-editor, and announcements may also be submitted. Articles must not have been published previously in other engineering or scientific journals. Articles in the following (or related areas) are particularly encouraged: active noise control, active vibration control, aeroacoustics, architectural acoustics, boundary element and finite element methods, condition monitoring and diagnostics, damping - passive and active, environmental/community noise, human response to sound and vibration, inverse methods, low frequency noise and vibration, machinery noise and vibration control, materials for noise and vibration control, measurement techniques, mechanisms of human hearing, modal analysis, musical acoustics, noise control elements, non-destructive testing, non-linear acoustics and vibration, numerical methods, occupational noise exposure and control, outdoor sound propagation, scattering of sound, signal processing, sound intensity, sound sources, sound transmission, statistical energy analysis, structural acoustics and vibration, structural intensity, transportation vibration and noise, underwater acoustics, vibration and shock, vibration sources, and wavelet analysis. Authors whose articles are accepted for publication must transfer copyright of their articles to the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV) . This transfer involves publication only and does not in any way alter the author's traditional rights regarding his/her article.
All manuscripts are refereed by at least two referees and are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief before acceptance. Manuscripts of articles and technical notes should be submitted for review electronically in PDF format to the Editor-in-Chief by e-mail at ijàv@eng.àuburn.ådu or by airmail on a disc. IJAV maintains a high standard in the reviewing process and only accept papers of sufficient quality and of a similar level to papers accepted by JASA, JSV, Applied Acoustics, Archives of Acoustics/Acustica, etc. On acceptance, revised articles, brief biographies and photographs of all authors should be submitted to the Managing Editor by e-mail at noise@mail.rñîm.ru or by express mail. Text of the manuscript should be double-spaced on A4 or 8.5"x11" paper, subdivided by main headings - typed in upper and lower case flush left, with one line of space above and below and subheadings within a section - typed in upper and lower case underscored, flush left, followed by a period. Sub-sub headings should be italic. Articles should be written so that readers in different fields of acoustics and vibration can understand them easily. Manuscripts are only published if not normally exceeding twenty double-spaced text pages. If figures and illustrations are included, then normally they should be restricted to no more than twelve-fifteen. The first page of the manuscript should include, on separate lines, the title of the article, the name(s) of the author(s), affiliation(s), and mailing address(es) of author(s), in upper and lower case. Do not include the author's title, position or degrees. Give an adequate post office address, including zip or other postal code and the name of the country. An abstract of not more than 200 words should be included with each article. References should be numbered consecutively throughout the article, with the number appearing as a superscript at the end of the sentence unless such placement causes ambiguity. The references should be grouped together, double spaced at the end of the article on a separate page. Footnotes are discouraged. Abbreviations and special terms must be defined if used.
Mathematical expressions should be typewritten as completely as possible. Distinguish between capital and lowercase letters where there could be confusion. Equations should be numbered consecutively throughout the body of the article at the right hand margin in parentheses. Use letters and numbers for any equations in an appendix: Appendix A: (A1), (A2), (A3), etc. Equation numbers in the running text should be enclosed in parentheses, i.e., Eq. (1), Eqs. (1a) and (2a). Figures should be referred to as Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc. Reference to tables is in full: Table 1, Table 2, etc. Metric units should be used: the preferred form of metric unit is the System International (SI).
Original graphs and diagrams should be drawn carefully. Lettering should be as large as possible for easy reading when figures are reduced to single column width. Complete and specific axis identifiers are necessary. A caption must accompany each illustration; captions should be typed double spaced on a separate page at the end of the article. In order to eliminate extra work and increase legibility, it is advisable to reduce the amount of lettering on the figures and include more complete figure captions. Photographs should be high contrast black and white glossy prints. Those with a superimposed screen and unclean contents are not acceptable. REFERENCES The order and style of information differs slightly between periodical and book references and between published and unpublished references, depending on the available publication entries. Very often, the reference information given is too incomplete to be helpful. Authors must provide full details of their references. If in any doubt, authors should supply complete unabbreviated information. For periodicals, the ordering is:
For books, the ordering is:

Contributed announcements of, and brief reports on meetings or discussions of interest to readers may be submitted for publication. Books may be submitted for review, and advertisements may be accepted. SUBMISSIONS All materials from authors should be submitted in electronic form to the IJAV Editor-in-Chief (e-mail: ijàv@eng.àuburn.ådu). For the item to be published in a given issue of a journal, the manuscript must reach the Editor-in-Chief at least twelve weeks before the publication date.
On acceptance, revised articles, brief biographies and photographs of all authors should be submitted in electronic form to the IJAV Managing Editor (e-mail: noise@mail.rñîm.ru). The article shall be submitted electronically in its final form and be prepared, where possible, on a PC-compatible computer. Please note that any version of TeX, LaTeX, Lotus WordPro, WordPerfect or Microsoft Word are preferred. Text of the manuscript including all figures, tables, etc. shall be also submitted as a PDF file which will be used for proof reading. Revised hard paper copy of an article including all figures, may be sent for a case if PDF file cannot be supplied or cannot be read. Ensure the final version of the hard copy, the PDF file and the article file on the disc are the same and all equations and symbols are presented correctly. It is authors' responsibility to ensure complete compatibility of submitted materials. If there are differences, PDF file of the article will be used. The directions for preparing the article in the style of the journal as set out above must be followed. The table and figure captions should be saved in a separate file from the main text of the manuscript. Illustrations and photographs should also, where possible, be supplied as separate graphic files. The operating system and the word processing software used to produce the article should be noted, as well as the authors' names. All the file names and the method of extraction should also be noted. Brief biographies and head and shoulders photos of all authors are published in IJAV along with the articles. All biographies should be submitted electronically. All photos should be saved as separate graphic files (resolution of an image shall be not less than 300 dpi). A biography and a corresponding photo of each co-author should be saved as a separate PDF file and submit to the Managing Editor. Author photos may also be submitted as a paper prints.
